Wairau Summit

Wairau summit is situated within the Waimamaku catchment on the northern side of the Waipoua Forest. This previously cleared 50 hectare reserve now supports self regenerating species including rimu, totara, pate, gahnia, mahoe, manuka, kahikatea, karamu and various types of fern. Areas not self regenerating are scheduled for planting in 2025. Before any planting can commence the ongoing issue with feral goats needs to be addressed.

Weed maintenance and animal pest control are ongoing on this reserve and are vital to the establishment of a healthy forest ecosystem.
